Ice Hockey Programs
2008-2009

Lewis County offers the chance for persons of all ages to play and participate in Ice Hockey in Lowville, NY at the Forest Park Pavilion in the Lewis County Fairgrounds.  Participants can learn to skate, play on a competitive Traveling Team or play locally on the in-house teams. All ages are welcome and invited to participate.

LCAHA is a USA Hockey © registered program that offers man-made ice facilities with an open arena atmosphere. Forest Park Pavilion has recently been upgraded with a controlled cooling system to provide prime ice conditions throughout the entire winter season. The rink also upgraded the hockey boards and glass system.

Forest Park Pavilion is located within the Lewis County Fairgrounds on NY State Rte 812 a ¼ mile north of the Rte 812 and Rte 26 intersection in Lowville, NY. Lowville is located 45 minutes north of Utica on Rte 12, 30 minutes south of Watertown on Rte 12, 35 minutes north of Rome on Rte 26 and 15 minutes south of Carthage on Rte 26.

The Rink also offers Public Skating.  Call ahead to the Rink at 315-376-6528 (after 2pm)

LCAHA offers the following programs for beginning or experienced skaters:

In-House Program (ages 16 and under):
Skaters are all registered with USA Hockey in their respective age groups.  The players meet once a week on Saturday mornings at Forest Park Pavilion.  The players are split up into groups based on ages and skill level.  Trained USA Hockey certified coaches mentor the players in learning basic individual and team hockey skills which assist them in playing in-house games against each other reminiscent of pond hockey fun of years ago.
Players are registered in USA Hockey and receive a LCAHA practice jersey.

In-House teams in the different age groups may also have the opportunity to play other local Hockey Programs in friendly scrimmage games at Lowville and other area rinks as scheduling permits.
All USA Hockey registered players are welcome from other local programs to participate on a visitor basis with the LCAHA players.

For more information contact In-House Coach Steve Tingley 315-346-9922 steventingley@hotmail.com

Cost: $75 (Covers USA Hockey registration and jersey) Loaner equipment is available for new players on a sign out basis.

Squirts Traveling Team (10 and under):

Players ages 10 and under have the opportunity to register for the Squirts Traveling Team that plays competitively with other North Country Ice Hockey programs.  The players practice twice a week at Forest Park Pavilion on Monday and Thursdays from 6:00 to 7:30 pm.  Players are registered in USA Hockey and receive a LCAHA practice jersey and team socks.  The Squirts Team games are primarily scheduled on Saturdays throughout the hockey season (November thru March).  This year the team will mostly play teams from the Watertown, Utica and Alex Bay areas.  Trained USA Hockey certified Level II Coaches will provide individual skills development, team drills, and fun competitive challenges for all players.

For more information contact Squirts Coach Matt Zehr 315-921-5903, mattzehr@email.com.

Cost: $75 (covers USA Hockey registration, jersey, and socks) Loaner equipment is available for new players on a sign out basis.

Learn-to-Skate:  (operated separately from the Hockey Program)
All ages are welcome to participate in the Learn-to-Skate program at Forest Park Pavilion.  The program does not require registration in USA Hockey but does require local registration.  Skilled coaches mentor new skaters in learning to master the basics of skating, balance and stopping on the ice surface at weekly skating practices on Wednesdays at 5pm for one hour.  This program provides an excellent opportunity for those that want to learn the basics before taking the next step to the Hockey program.

For more information about Learn-to-Skate contact Janet Morrison-Lee 315-771-6496 jaylmor@hotmail.com.  Learn to skate coach: Jim Burns 376-8905, Ken Burns 376-7592  Helpers: Brandon Burns

Cost: $15 (Covers registration and coaching) Loaner equipment is available for new skaters on a sign out basis.  Learn-to-Skate requires a helmet during skating practices.

Adult Hockey:

All adult hockey players are invited to play adult hockey in a competitive environment without the high costs of league play.  The players meet twice a week on Monday and Thursday nights from 8 to 10 pm for fun games.  Teams are chosen weekly based on player turn out and skill level.  All players are encouraged to bring at least two jerseys (one dark [black] and one light [white]) so that players can easily be separated into opposing teams for the games.  All skill levels and goalies are welcome.

For more information contact adult hockey Coordinator Janet Morrison-Lee 315-771-6496 jaylmor@hotmail.com

Cost: $5 nightly (covers use of facilities) Loaner equipment is available for new players on a sign out basis.  Players that intend to play the whole season may pay $100 in advance to cover the entire year.
